Hi all,

Due to the known problems of squeezing Pinto's under the normal Locost bodywork, we are making bodywork with extra clearance under it to fit the engine better.

We expect to have new nosecones, scuttles and bonnets within 4 weeks. Keep an eye out on the website or email me.

Ive just got mine from luego ned for my 20xe engine, it fits a treat, has a bulge moulded in and is superb quality, just about 2-3" taller. Well pleased with it

sorry ned no pics at the mo but its just the same as the velocity pics on luegos site, not the viento, thats a lot wider.

Does anyone know a good source for +4" wider and ideally taller nosecones, bonnets and scuttles to suit the McSorely 7+4 chassis? I'm fitting a Rover V8 and it is also quite tall although I'm not yet sure exactly how tall compared with the likes of a Pinto.

Darren, does GTS intend to make +4" bits? I'd hate to have to buy standard bits and then do a cut n shut for the extra 4"...

Have a word U2U with James hes building something with strange proportions.

Two things are happening.

Firstly we are making 1" taller bodywork for the Sierra De Dion kit, which will also fit a book car.
Secondly we are making scuttles and noses +4" wider for those building McSorley type cars.

If it wasn't for postal strikes, i might have a chance of updating the site with pics....

By the way, why does the de-dion sierra kit require taller bodywork? I've built a de-dion backend for my book chassis but I can't see why it needs to be taller. Now I'm wondering if I've missed something...

Ideally what I need is a +4" bonnet with bulge big enough for RV8, nosecone and scuttle (maybe dashboard too) and front and rear arches to suite 195 or 205 width tyres. The rear arches need to be suitable for the +4" chassis and the Sierra full width back end (57.8" track width from centres of contact patches)

Any idea when this stuff will be ready for orders and will the prices be similar to the book stuff?

The bodywork needs to be a touch taller to help fit the Sierra engine in comfortably.

MK do it by making the chassis 1" taller. We don't want to do this as it makes it heavier, so we are making the bodywork taller by the same amount.

The prices will be slightly higher, because of increased labour and materials, and plus i have to right off the new mould costs etc.. Haven't worked out a definate price. Somewhat determind by the interest in the product, as i can right the mould cost off over a larger number of customers.

+4 bonnet that can take a rover v8 (probably with SUs as we're cheapasses) would be a big bonus.

but we'll probably want a nose anyway.. and wings, but they should be the same as for a book car (I think... )

I'm hoping to be able to publish pics and drawings of the +1" taller bodywork, very soon, the +4 is in the pattern work stage so a few weeks off of pics.

I too can't make the show but would be more than happy with drawings.

From talking to a fellow "Rover V8 on a +4inch wider chassis" builder, he had to make his bodywork about 2 inches taller at the centre of the scuttle in order to clear his Holley 390cfm carb on the V8. I know you are probably not making the +4" bodywork specifically for the Rover V8 engine but I think it would be advantageous to add in some extra height as well to keep things in proportion and to accomodate taller engines. After all, I would expect that most people will be using a wider chassis to accomodate a bigger engine (or a bigger bum I suppose...) and would appreciate some extra height too.

Its the eternal situation of trying to please everyone at the same time. If i go wider and taller, we'll end up making monster great car out of a diddy little one... See Viento as an example.

If you fancy a bulge to clear carbs etc, then maybe we can do this as a seperate bond on part.

I appreciate the problem and to be honest I'm not sure exactly how much extra height I need with the RV8. I think I will need BOTH extra height AND a bulge though to clear the SU carbs.

Anyway, when you get to the drawing stage then I (and a few others clearly) would be very keen to get a preview. I'd be happy to place a firm order once I had seen the dimensions and confirmed that it would be close enough to what I need.

I'm definately interested in a wider scuttle.

Admittedly mine isn't actually quite +4" but I'm hoping there'll be a little flexibility to it so it can be made to fit!

I probably(?!) will fit a standard nose cone as my chassis isn't much wider at the front so I'm thinking of just moving the nose a little further forward.

Oh the joys of arsing around with the plans!
