where to get extruded foam sheets
smart51 - 26/3/08 at 10:57 PM

I want some foam sheets to make a bodywork former. The white beady blown polystyrene sold by B&Q for insulation is no good for carving / sanding. Where can I get the extruded stuff from?

How about kingspan sheets about 2" thick

If all else fails, expanding foam sands really well...!

blue foam that is used for model making is the perfect stuff for this. Have a word with your nearest r/c model shop. I also think it may be used in the building industry but not sure.

http://www.cfsnet.co.uk/acatalog/CFS_Catalogue__FOAMS___CORE_MATERIALS_129.html

Also a good supplier of grp materials and tools.

Blue styrofoam is quite expensive in large areas, the yellow stuffused by builders can be sanded gently toa decent finish but the dust is awful.

You can get the high density stuff at large B&Q stores. It's made by Knauff. Should be in the lagging area, last time I looked it was about £40 for about 3sq m.

Why not use the under floor inulation sheets they have on site they are solid and cut easily with a saw and sand very easily

Dunno about suppliers though, sorry.
