
How can i get an invisible fix for my front cycle wings? No bolts showing but able to withstand the forces generated at 185mph?
Not convinced its safe to do so but if someone can enlighten me i may be convinced

second vote for PU.
just make sure you stick it to roughed up fibreglass, and bare, de greased metal. Allow it to fully cure though! a good couple of weeks.
you're more likely to lose a wing by your brackets failing than the PU bond.

How about backing the PU up with countersunk rivets, fill the heads over and paint, assuming you're painting the guards, not just the gel coat.
since it's the MNR brackets, which as far as i can remember are round tube, it might be worth making a few strips of aluminium to bond over the
top of the round tubes, just to give a larger surface area for it to stick to and a captive bond to the bracket.

On my MNR front wings i have to remove them to remove the front wheel, as they wrap so far around the tyre, so ive just used screws with little black covers on them
Ok, I will give this try a try.. rivit some ruffed up ali to the round bar to give a 2X4" contact area and bang it all together with Tigerseal.
What do you reckon??
185mph is the target, is that not realistic?

Its a 1.8 zetec with bike carbs and if it doesn't get there it will get a 2.1 turbo zetec with 500bhp

or a 6 pot Volvo turbo or....
When this is finished i'm going to be making an engine for me scooter, just need a lathe and a milling machine.

i guess you could always fibreglass the brackets to the wings
If you can spread the contact area by rivetting on some larger 'pads' to the bracketry then the PU will have a much better bond - far better
than fibreglass because it also acts as a shock absorber and helps stop the mudguards from shaking themselves to pieces.

My solution was to braze bolts to that metal sheet that you can get in B&Q with loads of 5mm holes in it, drill the stays so that the bolts go
through the top and the bottom holes are big enough to get a small socket in.
This gives me a sort of strong mesh on bolts that i can PU bond to the cycle wings then bolt through the stays.
This gives me a degree of adjustability enough to raise or lower the height above the tyre a bit depending on tyre size profile etc.
I am working on the premise that once on they will stay there until to knakered to worry about removing them in one piece
As stated earlier with the MNR full wrap around cycle wings it can be difficult to get the wheels & tyres off. Just make you can get the wheels off before bonding the cycle wings on permanently.

Thanks chaps I'll check whether I can get the wheels off. Can't really be bothered to take the wings off everytime I want to change wheels
tho, the whole idea was to bond them on permanently to get rid of the bolt heads showing.
I may just get some nice carbon jobbies for later on

I used wurth adhsive then fibre glassed over the bracket to the inside of the mud guard,
Would take some serious force now to pull them off,
