Turn a scale model into a fullsized foam car
sgraber - 5/12/03 at 07:44 PM

link

They laser scan your scale model and cnc carve it out of a foam block!

This is an example of a pretty neat way to turn a small, scale model, into a fullsized shape that can be finished and used to pull molds.

But... $3,500? Thats a lot of dough.

if you wanted to make a ferrari replica, then its just a trip to the toy store and the bank, and a whole loada fiber glass moulding

Amazing what the mind can conceive... If you can think of it, somebody's done it already!!

I see that he's in Utah, Steve, near that foam producer. Why don't you just go on up there with the Country Squire and load up some of that there foam?

Yeah, I'll head on up to Utah, get myself a few good mormon wives while I'm there! Only 10 hours away...

pbura - 6/12/03 at 03:12 AM

Hmm, maybe I should take my wife there and trade her in for two twenty-year-olds

Utah man! UTAH! The land of many wives. The mormons are a major portion of the population of Utah. They practice polygamy. And they practice it as part of their religious freedom. They try to get as many wives as they can and then go at it like bunnies to make as many children as they can...

Spyderman - 6/12/03 at 06:42 PM

Sounds good to me!

Both ideas, that is!

The first one would probably work out cheaper though!

For making a plug I think that is quite a reasonable price.
I wonder how much Alanb has spent so far on his bodywork?

Indeed, it is illegal. Although I am not sure whether pressure from outside the church (ie-the gov't) forced view that into the culture of the church, or if the leadership of the church decided it was morally reprehensible to have 15 wives and to marry them off when they were no older than 14-15. And yes, there is a faction of the Mormon church that lives in Utah that still practices Poligamy. It was in the news recently here in Phoenix about a man convicted of it. His youngest wife was just 13 years old!

In any case, it makes for a good story and an interesting reason to go to Utah! other than car bodies.

Well, in my case I've been through the exercise twice.......but rough figures for doing it once would be.....

Wood, 4x2 etc........$50
Tile board.......$50
Dry wall plaster/filler.......$100
Paint...........$30
Misc. stuff.........$50

So about $300 for the plug...i.e not much

Moulds material about $400
First body parts about $250

Spending half your life filling and sanding.......priceless.......

I've been to Utah...

You'd have to be very careful with the model - any tiny blemishes will be scaled up along with the rest of the car.

Having a couple of wives might be good fun to start with, but after a couple of years youd be getting nagged in stereo or even suround sound if you had 4
Cheers,
Bob

Is there a white trash ville type caravan park in Utah, where they marry their ponies and so on?

Sure i caught a documentary on this.

But then, it could have been any redneck state!
