Fuel filler problem
Macbeast - 9/7/08 at 03:42 PM

I need a fuel cap and pipe to mate with the 1 3/4" inlet to my tank. So I go along to supplier of shiny bits (edited to protect the guilty). First they don't have 1 3/4" fuel pipe - ok let's buy the filler/fuel cap anyway. Get back to car and notice that the the Filler/fuel cap is quoted as 2", not 1 3/4". Trudge back in the rain. Chap says it's ok - the funnel is stepped.

Get home and measure - yep it's stepped but 2 1/4" to 2". What is really annoying is I asked him twice to check and he sneered in that "stupid old fart" way

To save me going back and giving him one in the groin, would it be ok to put an inch of 1 3/4 pipe on the tank inlet to pad out the diameter and slide a length of 2" over it ?

Whether it was or it wasn't I'd be going for the groin/pain option anyway...

Sorry for not answering, but those people really do wee me off...

Car Builder Solutions sell a rubber tophat insert for about £4 which does the job perfectly. Ordered one yesterday, came this morning.

Thanks AHB, but is it ok for fuel ?

Gates Rubber Co product number 26392. Just contacted CBS and they confirm fuel resistant. (Pure rubber). Hope this helps.

I got my fuel filler bits from Rally Design, probably a bit more difficult for others as I poped in when I was passing their neck of the woods.

Many thanks. Was going to CBS on Saturday already so that works for me
