metal edges on side panel
scutter - 21/12/03 at 12:47 PM

Greetings gents,

Having just read the new SVA regs,

Am i correct in thinking the that the overlaping ali sheets that make up the side panels are now illegal? It says "all metal egdes must be rolled over" not very cosmetic on whats hopefully a smooth body.

If this is the case how are people planning to get round this?

Someone tell me I'm fretting over nothing (and mean it)

All the best Dan.

As long as there isn't a sharp edge sticking out you should be o.k. The overlap should be in the right direction so you can't snag on it but the panels should be flush anyway when the rivets are through them holding them to the chassis. Rub the cut edge with some fine emery to take the corners off and it will be alright.

yours, Pete.

I did the same as Pete - I rounded over the edge with a fine file, then used polyurethane sealant as glue and a number of rivets to hold it down.

I can run my finger along and over the edge with no sense of sharpness - it's just like a bump in the ali sheet.

Excellent cheers gents,

I was expecting to have to put stepped joins in or something weirder.

Many thanks Dan.
