Polished aluminium with autosol - how to keep the shine
MK9R - 27/8/08 at 01:53 PM

So if i polish my ali side panels with autosol so they come up like a mirror, if i spray them immediatly with clear laquer, how do you think they will stay looking good?? And how well will the laquer bond to the clean ali??

I have a 1972 Suzuki motorcycle rebuilt to show standards, I spent hours polishing the engine cases, and use Belgom Alu to keep them bright, it is excellent stuff which does leave a protective film beind.

I find a coat of good car wax, i use Autoglym, is much better, if it does tarnish you can repolish it no problem.

It's what i do to my mountain bike and looks good for about a year.

Kind regards

John

Maguires all metal polysh seems to leave a protective film behind too. I dare say that no matter what you use regular polishing will be required to keep it bright.

Id suggest contacting Trev to see how he manages as he has a little more bare ali than most and his car always looks the danglies.

cheers all. i hate cleaning and polishing, so looking for minimum amount of work after the initial clean up (Ali is terrible at the moment)
