Are top quality car covers worth it?
Steve Lovelock - 8/9/08 at 03:52 PM

I am going to be taking my car out of the garage soon to make way for the next project so I need a car cover. I have looked at the Stormforce cover from Car Covers UK and it seems to be top quality.

The thing is it works out at about £140 including postage. I could pay this if it was worth it but I just don't know how to establish if it really is worth it. Any views?

I'm not sure, but I have been looking at one of these too. My car needs to live outside for a while, and a tarpaulin just doesn't quite do the thing justice. I am in the process of sorting out a "carport" style cover, but want something to wrap the car up in too.

I'd be interested to hear any thoughts on these things

Cheers
Andy

hmm going by that picture they look very like the exploding halford ones I unfortunately bought. Any of the ones with a woven fabric seem also to be not even slightly water proof despite there claims to the contrary, infact they leak like a sieve and flood the damn car. Ended up using black polythene sheet as per for house foundations, with old bed cloths underneath.

Don't waste your money. Paid good money for one from Classic Covers, after 5 years outside it looked like like a hairnet. Complained and sent pics to them and they said they were only expected to last for 3 years. £110 FOR 3 YEARS ! But they were very understanding and offered me a discount on a new one....yeah i reckon

I had one, their monsoon version, it got destroyed by the sun (not this summer OBVIOUSLY!)

On positive note they replaced it FOC with the same again, but suggested I take it off when it's hot & sunny !
main reason for having it, apart from winter wet weather it was to also protect from fading paint, so......

In summary, they don't last, even the expensive ones. Whether they're worth it... I think my car deteriorated under it, but then it was under it for nearly 3 years. I don't theink I'd have had a problem if it'd been kept in the garage.
