The old chrome bumpers on the TVR have a fair bit of surface corrosion, and one of them has a massive gurt rust hole in it...
Im not a fan of shiny chrome stuff...so was thinking about painting them gloss/mat black...
However, I should imagine that paint wont stick to chrome..
Will the chrome sandblast off?...Can I use some sort of etch primer?
am sure this has been covered in a thread before,
I think it was suggested to rough the chrome finish as much as possible and use an etch primer first.
But am happy to be contradicted
grit blasting should sort them ready for painting
Can they take grit blasting? is there enough metal left??
Plenty of metal left...they are in a fairly good shape, appart from the one that has a hole in it...LOL.... I was contemplating getting them grit
blasted, then weld a plate in and fill it before painting...
Seems such a shame to stick four massive chunks of steel onto a lightweight fibreglass shell...but I dont know if I have any alternatives...
Why not get them blasted, repaired and then nylon coated. I saw a roll bar done like this and it looked superb. Better than powder coating i
reckon.
One of those places that specialises in refinishing could probs advise what to go for.
