As title... has anyone used this stuff? I keep looking again at my boot area cover and not really liking the vinyl on plywood. I have seen that some people have used ABS but it seems to me that it might be a bit too flexible and some people have have ABS panels expand in warm temperatures.

I saw this stuff on ebay: 0.3mm sheets of aluminium with a polyethylene core, 3mm total (obviously the piece advertised would be too small!)

Would this also be too bendy? Any other experience/thoughts?

its very very strong.... we used to make signs from it and use in kids play parks etc they were there for quite a while untill they got bent.

Very light and very strong. For flat surfaces it's great. No so good for bendy surfaces though!!!!

Where to get a ful sheet ?

You can also get a custom size piece and I worked out that a bit big enough for a boot cover would be about £25

I used a similar product, called diabond, (if I remember correctly) for my dash and covered it with a nice metalic grey signmakers vinyl, no complaints atall and i think it looks good., I used some ali for my boot lid.

If you try a local signmakers you should be able to get a sheet for 20 quid not diabond but similar

Its nearly as stiff as a sheet of ali in the same thickness. Works on the principal of second moments of area (moment of inertia) of a section.

Similar to a steel tube is just as stiff (not as strong!) as a solid bar the same size.

Composite sheet is excellent stuff, it is expensive though.

One thing to consider is the susceptability to impact damage, (cosmetic). If the central ply is honeycomb nomex type material the panel will be light and relatively rigid but very liable to dent if even light sharp edged objects are dropped on it.

IMO it's a good choice of material as long as you're aware of it's shortfall.

That's what my sidepanels are made of (in 2mm). Good stuff to use, just do not try to bend it because the outer layer of ally will shear. If you need a (sharp) bend in it, cut through the inner layer of ally with a router and bend ONCE (!)
