We're keeping all the blue (hence choice of gelcoat in the first place), but I don't know if it's going to be cheaper &/or a better job, to get the white sections done with paint or by wrapping, it's the sections on the bodywork obviously, but also on the wings & supports as they are different whites at present. Once the white is sorted, I'm guessing the red & gold stripes are going to be easier with pre cut cast vinyl rather than trying to mask up & paint, but they are quite a complex shape. The decals shouldn't be too much of a problem, but unfortunately I've lost the guy who used to do all that for me & although I have someone who'll do it they are expensive, so any suggestions for a wrapping/decals co. who can be trusted to do a good job, preferably in Essex or nearby, would be much welcomed.

I believe there was someone on here recently who said they could do cut vinyl for stuff like all the decals, but can't find the post

The large white "Rothmans" will become "Furore", but in the same font (which I need to identify), the smaller "Rothmans" white on blue sort of oval shape on the airbox will probably be customers name or initials on the same background shape. I'm happy to fit all decals myself, but never had any experience with wrapping.
The stuff like Renault, Elf, Sonax, Sanyo will all remain the same

Any sensible input much appreciated - budget is rather tight on this at around £2k for total job

Have you thought about buying your own vinyl cutter and doing it yourself?

more profits in your pocket then

russbost - 2/8/17 at 08:51 AM

I hadn't thought of that, no idea how much they'd come down in price, only thing is I haven't got a clue when it comes to graphics files, nor how you pick out & apply backings etc. nor what type of vinyl to buy or where from - apart from that I'd be fine!

if you can build a car from scratch, then putting some stickers on shouldnt be too much of an issue

plenty of how to videos onyoutube

It's not putting them on that would bother me (done that plenty of times b4!) it's the generation of necessary graphics files & getting supplies of the correct vinyl etc for the job, also deciding what cutter/printer would be suitable & adequate.

Nimbus Sans D Black is my best guess (Rothmans font)

Many thanks, that looks spot on, nearest I had found was Moire extra bold, which is close, but the "O" is a bit squarer, just downloaded the Nimbus & it's as good as identical -

Now, does anyone know what the Rothmans script font is, nearest I've found so far is Palace Script, which is similar, but defo not right!

your'e able to download script font and logo from here

i can cut/print logos (i am a signwriter) the hardest part is making an acurate template for the stripes over the front of cockpit

Thanks for the link, I may be being a bit dense here, but if I want it say something other than Rothmans then presumably the vector logo isn't any help. I couldn't actually see a link to the font?

Yes, the stripes are the most awkward part, hence why I was thinking along the lines of getting someone local involved

skippad - 3/8/17 at 07:16 AM

I'll have a look through my fonts (about 6000!) but if you notice there are six different "Rothmans" script fonts on that page alone...so any of those would do.

russbost - 3/8/17 at 08:31 AM

I tried to identify the font online, but I think due to it being script it pulls up extra letters or part letters with each character so the font identifier has no accurate information to go on!

Found this post yesterday ( ok I was bored and looking for distraction from work)

"
I'm looking for the "Rothmans" writing that the team used to recreate the old Rothmans racing logo. I've already searched for it, but came out that nothing what I've found is correct.
The "R" got a rounding and is connected to the "o"
the font itself looks quite bold to me, and the "s" is also quite special.
Snell Roundhand Bold Script is very close, but with an completely wrong "s".
Palace script mt, too thin.
Kunstler Schreibsch is also close but the "R" is not connected, and the "s" is not correct either.
Kunstler script, too thin and the "s" is not the same.
GE Formality, too thin and letters are separated.
Edwardian is not the one too.

so if someone got an idea. please help me out. "

Guess if you're replacing whole 'Rothmans' for 'Furore' then you can get away with one of the above....

Many thanks for all the help guys, I've been recommended to a firm about 35 miles from me & have spoken to them, they seem to think it shouldn't present a problem & seem to think we can work at around the budget. I'll let you know how it turns out, won't be done until after IVA, & will post some pics up when it's finished!

Irony - 15/8/17 at 03:16 PM

I do this sort of stuff quite a lot and you really need access to the car to do a good job. A good firm will draw up the graphics, cut them and then apply them. I suspect because you car has so many complex shapes there will be a bit of giggling with the size of the graphics. I suspect you'll be looking at 3 man days to do this. Ironically I think sticking the graphics on will be the easy bit, drawing up the complex shapes and cutting, weeding and taping will take the time.

Don't forget to specify gold vinyl for the gold bits.

£2K is not that tight for this job, as you won't be digitally printing anything just cutting from normal vinyl.

Car looks amazing by the way

Yeah, they said they'll want the car for a few days & can't actually quote till they see it, there is a bit out of the budget for transport & stripping some bits & pieces off & back on, pretty sure it's the stripes that will cause most grief!
