That looks awesome. What specific paint/brand did you use?

Mr Whippy - 22/11/20 at 12:35 PM

Yeah that looks really nice, did mine in standard silver but it doesn't look half as good as that. What's the brand you used?

Got it from Frost UK. Think the brand is VHT. 3 heavy coats in alternating directions i.e. Horizontal, vertical then diagonal, wait 10mins between coats, then low heat setting on heat gun and waft heat gun over cover for what felt like a good 10mins and it starts to wrinkle to that effect. I then left it alone for a week as it still seemed soft after 24hrs. Not easy to paint anything in North East Scotland when temps never reach recommended 20 degrees for more than a dozen days a year.

Cool, I think I'll give that a go, cheers

Forgot to mention that I rubbed the cover down to bare steel and was spotless. When I was researching the process, I had heard bad results from guys using primer under the paint.

I did my v6 cam covers with VHT wrinkle, came out very well indeed...although in 'boring' black compared with the op . As said 3 decent coats and then use a heat gun to get the amount of wrinkle required and even effect (if there's a patch that's not wrinkled as much, give it some more heat).

I wonder how does it cleans out once your engine gaskets start to leak and/or road grime starts to take hold.
Any experience??
