point where aeroscreen becomes a windscreen

Hi, having looked it up in the iva mannual, im struggling to measure the point specified in the regs to determine whether my aeroscreen is too high or not? Has anyone had this checked during their examination? How did the examiner do it? Or are our cars well with in the limits anyway? Thanks in advance.

looking at the diagrams, i think its sort of individual to each car.
i would guess, if you can see the nose of your car over it, it's fine.

bear in mind o've not got a 7, and never driven or been in one its just from thinking about the shape & size of them, where you sit etc.

I can see the nose cone from sat down, but only just, so logically you would think that was ok wouldnt you? Hope so!

There is a (rather confusing) diagram for it in the IVA manual.

i would think so. the reason i'm thinking that is so your view of the road isn't obstructed.
but you really would have to get your tape measure and protractors out to check properly
but if you can see the nose i don't think you can be far wrong

I made my aeroscreen so that I could still see the edge of the nose cone and cycle wings. That way it didn't obstruct my view of the road at all.

The diagram from the SVA manual shows a jig that sets the "standard" eye position and measures a 4° (from memory) line downwards from there towards the front. Anything from that eye line upwards is treated like a windscreen, even if it is the super charger inlet on your V8. Personally, I wouldn't want it even that high.

so easy answer is if i can see my nose cone, then its fine then? Otherwise my nose cone would have to be see through if that fell into the view. Thanks

It is far simpler to borrow or buy and then sell, some longer mirror stalks, than it is to fuss around with wipers, washers etc. Believe me on this one!!

we're using it as a general guide, but if you look in the manual (i've got a link at the bottom) it gives a rather involved set of measurements.
theres a square block of a certain size which goes on the seat, then you measure just over 500cm from the front corner up (but parallel with the back of the seat, then 193cm (or something) forward, at 90 degrees to the back of the seat, and that gives a horizontal line, and the a line goes forward aimming 4 degrees down from the horizontal line.

^ yeah. its a bit complicated. but the height of the tester isn't really anything to do with it. just a general guide

thanks guys, i understood the diagram, i just wondered if there was an easier way to check if the aeroscreen was too high, and as blakep82 says it would fail on my bonnett before my screen, assuming i was roughly the same height as the test point

And if all else fails, jack the rear up, as it is 4 degrees to the horizontal plane.
