REAR WHEEL ARCHES

Hi All Youre probably going to shoot me for this ,but... why is it all the locosts I see (including the one I've just purchased)Have such out of proportion wheel arches ,to the size of wheel? They are either toowide and/or too large a diameter . the fronts fill the mudguard reasonable, with the locost f/glass items, but could look better I feel ,with tighter fitting guards ,the rear ones are all over the place!

Personally I don't think they are all too bad, some are worse than others but then you get what you pay for, they aren't low cost for no reason! If you want really high quality then there is a suitable proprietary manufacturer, but not cheap!

there are the odd dodgy ones about, but most are fine.................. i spent ages making sure everything was bang in the middle n square, and the arch was full.

Also, don't forget that the front wings travel up and down with the wheel, whereas the rear wings are fixed and need some of the additional space for the rear wheel suspension travel. Also, the gap won't be as visible with someone sat in it

I think maybe you've been looking at too many chav cars ?

yes they put huge wheels on which fill the arches but because they have full bodywork there is space inside the wheelarch for the wheel to move up into, by the very nature of a Locost's rear arches their is very little room for movement therefore you must have a gap......

Aside from that, as has been mentioned on here many times... bigger wheels and rubber band tyres actually make the car much harder to handle and very unpredictable.

Thanks all for your wisdom! I am going to build some rear arches in steel using a cut and added to trailer type arch . Fronts will be trailer guards fitted tight to the wheels . Maybe shapes /quality of f/glass arches have improved over the years, and I have got early, strange shaped ones (oo err!) Cheers
