windscreen yes or no
i am building a 442 so a standard windscreen wont fit i have tried lolocost/robinhood all i seem to get was a grunt from the boss there and
we havent got any
i cant say how long till we get some more and i cant quote you a price until we get some in
so should i bother with a windscreen at all
i am not racing it just taking it on the road when finished
how unconftable is it without a screen as it will save on the heater the wipers etc etc

I dont have a windscreen on my car , I intended to fit one or an aeroscreen but it is not top of my list of jobs to do.
If you wear a crash helmet and decent gloves it is not uncomfortable at all especially if your used to riding bikes.
I often went for local runs during the summer just wearing sunglasses.
The only down side of wearing a helmet is I find that the engine noise actually seems worse than without and find earplugs essential.

If you intend to use on the road and don't want to have to wear a helmet then go for a screen. I tried without for a while and anything over
30mpd for any length of time is not good. I know you get lots of wind with a screen but you get used to it. Also fitting sidescreens will allow
motorway driving in some comfort.

I shouldn't bother with anything to start with, you'll get it on the road quicker and with less hassle, then you can see what you think
once you've driven it a bit.
Mine hasn't got a screen and I haven't found it too bad wearing just sunglasses. It does get quite windy at high speed and I
wouldn't even consider a long motorway journey without some form of screen or a helmet. As with Paul, I intend to fit an aeroscreen in the
future but it isn't top of my list of things to do.

P.S. Don't forget that if you fit a full windscreen you will also need wipers and a demister, all of which will add complication, time and
weight.
It's not that I'm lazy, it's that I just don't care...

every time a stone hits the windscreen of my every day car I think "I must put a windscreen on the locost to stop these things hitting my
face".

Hi,
I too am intending to go through SVA without a screen and then fit one later. It's not that I want to "circumvent" the SVA test but
why complicate anything which may increase the chance of a fail? I will make the call on whether to fit an aeroscreen or full screen later - in fact
I'll probably fit both (not at the same time...) for road or track use.
The thing about stones hitting the face does worry me a bit and I was going to get a full face helmet with a shatterproof visor for safety. However,
what sort of risk is there of actually getting hit in the face by a stone?

I've found that insects are a bigger hazard than stones - an incoming bumble bee could be 'interesting' at 70mph. I don't have
a screen and wear a full-face helmet most of the time.
I actually like going without a screen, as you don't get the turbulence that comes with a flat screen.

I plan no screen + helmets
I plan to have no screen, maybe a deflector. The reasons are of course simplicity, sleekness, and the fact that helmets can use a intercom system from
a touring bike and a radio.
If the right gear is chosen active noise damping is also an option.

An alternative to the helmet if you are going screenless (as I am, just using perspex deflector) is to use what we use for autograssing, motocross
goggles with attached facemask. These are around £30 and are very stone resistant (get enough of those in your face grassing!) and of course the
facemask stops you getting shattered teeth if a big stone catches you in the mouth, without the claustrophobic and slightly "out of touch"
feel that a full face helmet gives.
They just look a bit OTT but then who cares!

so the conclusion is no windscreen and a face mask for that hanibal look!
if i still go down the screen route will i have to make a pluss 4 one or has anyone found a supplier

If you want nice light weight goggles try horseracing items, have used these at speeds of over 120 mph with no problems, Rusty

Safety Glasses/glasses and earplugs.Aeroscreen.Thats all I have.North Yorkshire to Donnington on the motorways at 80mph av no bother last year.Large
bumble bees and horse Poo being thrown up from the car in front has only extended my tastes.If you keep thinking safety you'l never drive
another car again.

aero screen
if i go aero screen is it best to fit it after the sva and has anyone any pics of their aero screens
i cant make my mind up i like the look of the aero screen and the no hassel factor but is it comfortable

I'm driving down to Cannes this summer so I'm fitting a screen and sidescreens AND a 'flintstone roof' - may even fit a
stereo!!
IMO the car would get much more use if it's comfortable anyway

I'd run without a windscreen and see how you get on - theres a big difference between nothing and an aeroscreen, but if your wearing a helmet it
will keep the worst off your face.

I had a bumble bee hit me when I was going about 90mph (on a track of course) on a motorbike. It felt like someone had thrown half a brick at me.
At the end of my journey a took off my helmet. the remains of the bee were spread from the front of the helmet just above the visor most of the way
across the top of the helmet... and there was a little striped furry arse still visible where it impacted (that's how I found out it was a
bumble bee).
I ran my car without a screen for the first week or so, I found the wind above 60mph was just too much. I have just fitted an aero and while at high
speed you still get battered about, during normal driving it is much better. I tend to wear a full face helmet on most journeys, I don't really
fancy losing an eye to a flying stone .

I am going no screen, then worry sort later. Goggles / glasses or helmet are a must.
I have had a bee in the mouth at 30mph 30 years ago on my old BSA C15.. not nice, and a bit painful.
I find the more baked beans I eat, the worse the wind gets
1. The point of a journey is not to arrive.
2. Never take life seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway.

No screen in the summer was ok on local roads but on the motorway you really need a helmet,a lot of rubish flying around and i would think it wouldnt
take a large object to get a serios injury.
I will fit a screen this year though and also side sceen/doors,the sides are real important as the buffeting round a screen can be really annoying.
To be honest its all down to the SVA as its easier to go through with no screen at all,then fit one later if you fancy.

so it seems its easier to get through the sva without the screen but after using the car for a short while most people fit a screen (yes i am of that
age now!)
so i think i will fit one right from the start
so its off to the scrap yard to look for a polo heater for me
has anyone used the electric heaters from car builder solutions
