fuel filler cap posistioning

not sure if this is the right section but here goes anyway.

the tank i'm fitting in my indy is a bit on the big side, i've got some convoluted pipe but it just won't bend at a sharp enough angle to allow me to fit the fuel filler cap on the back panel so i'm wondering can i fit it as shown in the photo below?

my only real worry is if there was to be a spillage then fuel could get into the seating area but i can make something slightly raised up along the top of the rear baulkhead to stop that.

can it be done or is the sva man going to shake his head at it?

thanks
john
