Engine - Nosecone heights

Hi

Well I eventually got around to making the engine mounts over the weekend. I got hold of an inclometer and made the top of the tappet cover level with the floor; this in turn makes the bottom of the block level as well. With the engine in the above manner, I measured the angles with the inclometer and they are as follows:-

Left Hand side looking from front of cam shafts: - 98 degrees

Right Hand side looking from front of cam shafts: - 102 degrees

I then had the plates cut and Tig welded, and the angles made at the above mentioned angles. Bolted the mountings to the block and rested them on bricks. The engine now is approx ½ degree out, due to the welding etc.

Then I measured from the bottom of the block to the top of the oil filler cap (460mm) and then I roughly put the scuttle in place as well as the nose cone, with the dummy motor in place (and chocked up 50mm for mounting rubbers)
Then I ran a straight edge from the scuttle to the nose cone, it appears that the top of the oil filler is 10mm outside the inside of the nose cone.

Do you think this will pose a problem, just bear in mind that the 20 V engine was (used Dummy) not installed and the nose cone and bonnet are roughly in position with no aluminum side panels in place

I had a look at another Seven with a 20 Valve motor, and the nose cone sits on top of the cam belt covers with the oil filler sitting higher than the nose cone, and his bonnet fits fine over the cap.

Your comments please

Regards
Errol
