Paint for inside of GRP panels?

Hi all,

Am planning on painting the inside of the paels, as the GRP is vary variable in thickness, and so looks different colours - was going to paint it black so it all looks the same - but has anyone got any bright ideas about which sort of paint would be good?? Want to brush or roll on to avoid any overspray problems

Thanks

Chris

When I made my own panels, I put the same pigment into the resin as I did with the gelcoat. This meant the panel is the same colour all of the way through.

I would of thought some rubberised underseal typr paint would be ideal.....

Painting the inside is usually done for cosmetic reasons but it also stops light penetrating, therefore changing the colour.
Ideally, a flowcoat in a dark colour should be applied by the GRP supplier. Failing that, any thick paint should do it. I've used Smoothrite in the past to good effect.

I think I have a similar issue on one side of my scuttle, do you have to use a similar colour paint on the inside? Would a dark colour not look like a shadow if the gelcoat was a bit thin?

cheers,

Ned.

Ned, if your GRP is that translucent it would be better to apply the same colour first then finish with black.

yup, it is a bit translucent, put my hand behind the scuttle and noticed the gelcoat change colour with the shadow.

Of course I won't say which manufacturers grp it is, they seem to be having enough problems without me naming and shaming them!

Ned.
