gts side panels
hey people
my bodywork from gts should be here as i speak, bit late but anyway i would like to know how if anyone out there using gts sidepanels have put them
on? i was thinking of using rivets and panel bonding??
what sort of rivets do i use?
STEEL or ALUMINIUM??
i would of thoght steel ones would crack the fibreglass?
also same goes for the rear panel.
any help would be much appreciated
thanks

Have a look at the GTS build manual on my site in the downloads section.
You can rivnut all the panels on if you want them to be easily removeable.
If you use rivets, any material would be fine, but you need to use large head rivets, or put a penny washer under the head of normal rivets to stop
the GRP cracking.

Hi ya,
I havent had any bodywork off Darren yet. But everything I have had from him has taken around 4-5 weeks to arrive. Not bad really! Give him a ring
if you want to chase it up

Core Developments - if ya building a Luego - why not their bodywork?
I believe they all have similar lead times.
My chassis and bodywork took 6 weeks.
Patience is a virtue they say
I used the time constructively, ordering bits, reconditioning old bits, gathering knowledge etc.
Good luck with the build and don't always expect instant delivery in the kitcar world

If you believe you're not crazy, whilst everybody is telling you, you are - then they are definitely wrong!

The bodywork is non structural and only needs a few large head blind head (pop) riveta to hold it in "unseen" areas. ie. Under the wheel
arches. Under the olwer chassis rail. Along the bonnet shut.
The less you use the less you have to drill out when you want to remove it!
Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want!!!

I don't understand peoples problems in contacting GTS..
I am not a habitually lucky person and I do not have any special powers over other people but every time, and I mean EVERY time, I have tried to
contact GTS if they have not answered the phone there and then, someone has rung me back within 24hrs.
When I had a minor problem with my chassis one of the GTS people came to my house within a couple of days to sort it out.
When I have wanted to try ideas that have not been done before they have lent me parts on an "if it works pay me" basis and I have been
generally satisfied with the service I have received when compared with other kit manufacturers.
I am totally pissed off with every time someone mentions GTS all the moaners and whingers start up.
This is from a SATISFIED CUSTOMER.
Addendum
Quite honestly if you wait 6months for something then you should cancel your order and go elsewhere.
But then again we don't know what delivery time was agreed with GTS in this instance do we? We are as allways only hearing one side of the
story!!!!
EDIT
And by the way GAV where exactly did this post ask for people experiences with GTS?
The way I read it someone was asking for advice on the riviting of side panels!!!!!

Coredevelopment asked Flakmonkey what his experience's was with GTS delivery times.
I inferred this as asking for peoples experiences with GTS, after this is a public forum and wasnt in a U2U so therefore i took it as "fair
game" to offer my experience.
If you look at any posts ive made about GTS in no single instance have i ever been derogitory(sp?) towards GTS i have mearly offered a balanced
opinion.
When i ordered(in october) i knew darren was having problems however i made it clear it wasnt hugley time critical but i did expect my order to be
fullfilled in a timely manor, however i have always been in regular contact with darren querying the status of my parts and i was told that it would
be the end of january before i would be able to get the majority and yes for some things i have asked for a refund for and all of a sudden they were
sent out.
Last time i queried when my bodywork would be sent out i was told they were in the molds and would be with me the following week, that was almost 2
weeks ago.
Brian, to clarify i have never had huge problems in contacting darren however on only a couple of times have i ever got a response first time, i have
left email, which are usually replied to in part, within a week.
or when ive rung his mobile i have usually got an answer on the second or third attempt.
Today for instance i rang 3 times and left a voice mail and torrmow i will try again.
Perhaps if you you could explain this, a certain member of this forum ordered the beginning of january and got a full kit inside a month, bodywork and
all.
Yet im still waiting for my bodywork that was ordered in october?
and of course your right about cancelling my order and going else where, but ive planned my build with GTS parts so i am relecutant to do that.

Not true.
He asked David a direct question ...
Was your bodywork late?
You chose to read this as a general free for all to moan about GTS.
Quite honestly it is not my place to make comment about the way Darren chooses to run his business.
If he agrees lead times with customers then that is a private matter between him and the said customer.
If you have issues with that talk to him don't air your dirty laundry on here where people are trying to constructively help oneanother with
their respective builds.
By the way what exactly are you building?
Your photo archive doesn't give anything away.
Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want!!!

Incorrect you read it as a moan and took it as a general free for all to have a go at me.
Funny how perceptions work, eh?

The purpose of that Brian was to show you how frustrated i am, while i cannot profess to having a forcefull personality and as such put such
frustations across on the telephone in a such a manour as to express my displeasure, perhaps im just shy?
Would you not feel as i do with the supply times from an otherwise helpful company?

No their isnt much in my photo archive.
However if you were to click the www link below it will take you to my build gallery which shows my progress.

been in touch with darren just now. said there was a problem with one of the sidepanels. just to clarify i was not out to cause any arguments as this
seems to be a soar subject, but if you pay alot of money down like i have you expect the goods in the stated time, which i have not.
like i said before darren seems a tidy enough chap. i just dont like to messed about, i also took a weeks holidays this week to actually fit the
panels, but cant as they have been delayed.
this thread was initially about rivets and sidepanels true. but i value peoples comments as it gives you a true understanding of what you are dealing
with, i dont regret placing my order with darren as he seemed to give me a fair deal, and from this site i have been hearing good things about the
quality of work. so please put your bitching aside as this is meant to be a place where we can all help each other. after all we all share the same
interest.
thanks again
Rob
