How far inside your arches to fit the wheels?

How far inside your arches have you fitted your wheels?

A lot of early cars had the look that the arches stuck out a lot more than the wheels. This is something i'm trying to avoid whilst sorting out my rear axle.

Are peoples arches within a few mm, a cm, a inch of the wheel rubber if you held a straight edge across the open part of the arch?

Well i'm trying to decide how close to the edge i should go. If it ever came to it that i've gone too far i've got a set of old escort wheels i could use to get through SVA.

Just curious if 1" is going to look silly or not.

Sort of thinking if 1" was a bit silly then i still have the option of using spacers (despite not liking them). With it being Seirra rear end i'd think an extra 15mm to my capri alloys would put the wheel mounting more in line with its original design location.

With a ruler pressed against my tyre and reading from outside of arch, I have 5/8ths of an inch. So allowing 1/4" thickness for f/glass, my tyres are 3/8ths of an inch clear inside arch.

Clear
