Wing stays / brackets
Finally one of my stays broke - about 1300 miles' worth of driving. It's a Stuart Taylor bracket on Cortina hubs, and is the tube lower
and bar upper. It has broken at the point just above the weld, like most other people who've had that problem.
By coincidence I have just decided to replace my cycle wings anyway, as the ones I had were a tad narrow and I cut out slots for the stay arms and
they have started to crack away from the corners.
Since I don't have a welder and can't weld anyway, I think my options are:
1. Pay someone to weld up the stay, possibly adding an extra piece of bar on all the stay arms for strengthening
2. Buy a new one of the same type and hope it lasts
3. Buy some new ones readymade from somewhere... any ideas, e.g. anyone got a recommendation for reliable stays that will not break? In some other
threads it seems that MK are OK, but I am not sure if they fit Cortina hubs
Advice please, chaps!

I got mine from MRN. They're tube all the way & look pretty substantial. Come in 3 sections, the bottom part which fixes to the hub & 2
L shaped pieces onto which the wings fit. The sections are joined by a tube sleeve. Cutting the L tibe will allow for adjustment to fit different tyre
sizes. No welds to break!. As the car is still under development, I can't vouch for longevity but I can't think it's a part
I'm going to have to worry about. All MNR bits appear to have a good rep with other members.

The MNR ones look good and strong.
As you already have a set id get them repaired and strengthened. Im sure someone on here near u with a welder will do it for you for beer tokens.

As said I am sure some one would weld it for you. (I would if you where nearer)Then you can do the change in the winter along with the wings.

My lolocost ones are still fine, almost 2 years on the road (a couple of incidents off the road). Must've got lucky

The ST ones look spookily similar to the Lolocost ones though.

Went round to my local mechanic guy... he is going to weld back the piece, then weld on metal strips round all the flat bits on both stays, i.e. same
again. Hopefully that should hold the buggers!
