wingstays?

1. how much clearence between wing stay and tyre tread? (i.e. top)
2. how much clearance between wing stay and tyre sidewall?

2 - About 3mm

Sounds about right.

Take care though. I have a gravel drive and have found that I pick up stones which can then get jammed between tire and wing. My nearside wing has a rather ugly crazed effect where the gelcoat has been "popped" from behind (ooer!).

And if you are running the wing close to the tyre, make sure you can get the wheel off!
