Maplins Self Amalgamating Tape

I have puchased some Maplins self amalgamating tape to finish off my sharp edges, How long does it take to 'go off', can I speed up this process?

Cheers,

The Baron

You don't have to wait for it to go off. You stretch it as you put it on, to the point where you think it might break , and it sticks to itself. Ie. you wrap it round and round on itself.

It might harden a bit with time and it doesn't like sunlight but it's ready as soon as you put it on.

I used to use this stuff when I worked for BT. The golden rule is to stretch it until it is half its original width and wrap it around the item. It bonds instantly - but only to itself.

Beware! Use of self-amalgamating tape was a fail point in my first SVA. You have to "use stuff that a manufacturer would use"

Typical SVA - I used it on the steering arms and passed - it's also useful to stop rust on threads etc - great stuff....
