deconstructing
yep. still working on driving position - steering wheel - leg interference so removed the scuttle last night.
was quite a job but as I did not put it together, I unnecessarily removed 4 bolts that hold the scuttle frame to the chassis - it wer a right bu66er
to undo!!
scuttle is held down by rivets.
anyways, I have good access to the pedals and will make a nicer aluminium dash to move instruments from behind the steering wheel to raise it a bit
more.
also will get rid of the clock since I never leave battery fully on.
question - how is the scuttle frame normally held down - four 5 mm bolts don't seem all that strong so in case of an accident, it wil not hold
in place? or is the fram something specific to formula 27? (should I weld it in place?)

My MK fibreglass scuttle is held down with 6 x M6 bolts/penny washers into 6 x rivnuts in the top chasis rails. No idea how it would fair in an
accident though.

^^ ok; I thought so. so this scuttle frame I have is in addition (most likley the original intention was to wrap ali sheet as per the BOOK) the
fibre galss scuttle.
as far as I can tell, its only purpose is to give something to attach the dash to.
in your case the scuttle probalby has instrument panel as part of it,

My ST's scuttle is held down at the sides by 4 M6 bolts + washers. It is also bolted to an L profile piece of ali which covers the engine side
of the scuttle and the part of the top of the footwells that is inside the engine bay. thb, in the event of a crash I think a moving scuttle would
probably be the least of my worries.

That's what I was thinking! Any accident that threatens to remove the scuttle is likely to ruin the driver's day, whether the scuttle
stays or goes! I would hope that in a roll-over the driver will be kept off the ground by the roll bar and the front of the chassis (maybe the
engine).
For info, my scuttle is fastened with about five 8mm bolts that go horizontally into the chassis members.
