Fibreglass preparation

Quick question for you all.

I am preparring a fibreglass nosecone for spraying and need to do a bit of filling. Question is, do i rub down the gelcoat to key it and spray with etch primer before filling and rubbing down again, or do the filling directly onto the keyed gelcoat before etch priming over the top????

Depends what you're filling with. If its a polyester resin type filler (e.g. flowcoat's an easy option) then do any priming afterwards...

Rub down the gel coat well with fine wet & dry with washing-up liquid in the water to remove any wax from the mould. Then fill as required and flat before a primer goes on.
