black self adhesive material

I am still looking for some black self adhesive material to put on my rear arches to stop the stone chips. I have a roll of black fablon (from DIY shop), but I'm not so sure it will be up to the job. I have also noticed my regular car has some black textured self adhesive stuff on the door pillars. Anyone know of anything suitable and where to get it from ?. The local sign / vehicle wrapping place is looking for me but they haven't got back to me yet.

thanks

Not sure about sources, but 3M will almost certainly be the manufacturer, and probably will be able to advise on stockists. The 3M office you want is in manchester if you are looking for their phone no. - that is where they deal in the automotive materials.

I have already tried 3M they say they have never imported any of the black helecopter tape rolls wider than 2 inches into the UK. I need it to be 400mm wide, 3M can do this but I would have to buy an entire roll (36 yards !). Very expensive. Maybe they may do the door pillar stuff ?

thanks

The local bike shop has some carbon fibre lookalike sheet that they use to make tank protector dots. If the same stuff is available in plain black it would do the job nicely.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Could you not just butt up several strips of 2" stuff?

Pete, how big is the sheet of that stuff ? I need about 400mm x 400mm. Do you have the shops number so I can give them a call for more info. I thought about butting some of the smaller strips of helecopter tape together but the area I am covering is a compound curve so this would be quite difficult to do well.

thanks

If you find a US source, I'll send you some. I wouldn't mind a bit myself.

Anyone use this stuff or know anywhere that does ?

SJ-5800 looks about right 0.8mm thick, black

apparently used to make the no slip feet on the bottom of calculators etc.

Skateboard deck covering material?

Or carbon fibre looky-likey stoneguards from Mac#1 - that's where I got mine

isn't skateboard tape more like sandpaper (grippy) than protective. I'd buy some protectors if I could get them. The car is a tiger cat. The protectors tiger sell are fibreglass not really what I want.

He doesn't sell the sheets but I'll ask on Monday if he can get any black or where he got it from.
