Well going back on my previous statement, I think it'll be a hell of a lot cheaper and sensible to do the back, sides and bonnet out of ali .
I'm just rather concerned about bending the ali on the top and bottom edges over the frame... is it very hard to prevent 'kinks' in
the ali? What tools would I be needing and price for these? Is it also quite a long process to master such ali shaping?
Also, what books (or online sites/pdf's) are recommended for such ali body work?

Bending the ally over the chassis is easy. You only need a single 90 degree bend at the bottom, which can be done with two blocks of soft wood g
clamped on either side. Then bend by hand/against another bit of wood. Job done. The top can have either a 90 degree bend or a channel type thing to
go up and over the top rail. 1st fold as before, and just bash the other side over with a soft faced mallet. Job done. Might be easier to use a few
temp rivets of cleco's to hold the panel in place whilst doing this. Or have a very patient friend lying about handy.
