Another way to make bodywork?
I saw a video a while back (cant remember where) where this guy made a wooden frame for a sub, covered it in some material, staples it in place and
covered the whole thing in resin.
Im not sure what the process is called but i was wondering whether this might work for making custom bodywork?

Sounds like a glider body to me - timber rib frame covered in fabric.

they used to do that with planes didn't they? cover the wings in canvas, and then paint resin over them?
could work, but it might look a bit rough. but if you were to use that to then make a fibreglass mold, sand out any bumps etc, then make a fibreglass
panel from that, it could work okbut then i've never done any work with fibreglass. still haven't got round to it myself

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

My idea was to avoid using fibreglass. To sort out the bumps, i was thinking some filler might do?
I dont really have enough room in the garage to do any fibreglassing let alone custom rear wings

I've seen speaker enclosures made from MDF and fleece, then the fleece is inpregnated with resin.
Seems to work at that scale, dunno how strong it would be for bodywork mind..

That's more or less how it's done or you could use huge amounts of clay...

Here's a full body being made over a clubman chassis using the same principle -

Many (many) more photos at the link.
