fixing into fibreglass
ive made a front and rear carbon removeable sections for my scuttle and need to fasten them on.
i need some fitting putting into the fibre glass, what would you use?
normal riv nuts or are there better solutions out there? there not really load bearing
a pic of what i mean

I've used self-tappers in fibreglass in the past for dashboards, and they worked absolutely fine, but the fibreglass has to be relatively thick,
and don't over tighten.
If you want something a bit more robust, you can bond a nut onto the fibreglass (cover it in epoxy or better yet that u-pol paste with bits of
fibreglass in it). If you do this, lubricate the threads with grease or just be careful not to get f/g into them.
Alternatively, just get some U-clip nuts if your mounting surface can accommodate them.

Female threaded bigheads bonded on if there is such a thing Normal bigheads are like a large washer with a stud welded on, should be easy to make
female versions

Self tappers are more than man enough, although for the aeroscreen I have used RubNuts, either will do a good job.
If you use self tappers, grind a flat on the side of a screw and use it as a tap, this will stop the fibreglass cracking/splitting
when you drive in the screw.

Just stick a lump of wood behind the holes
Use s/s self tappers gives strength to the fibreglass
and a great fix.

Rivnuts work fine.
Duratec Engine is fitted, MS2 Extra V3 is assembled and tested, engine running, car now built. IVA passed 26/02/2016

Forgot to add I want it to be reusable, main reason for this is to be able to run the car with the scuttle off
Think I'll go riv nuts or them rubber riv nuts would they be ok?

RubNuts are fine, don't get me started on Rivnuts but, if you insist on using them use steel ones.
