brushable seam sealer for GRP protection - right stuff ?
I bought some "mastic" brushable seam sealer at the local body repair place (£9.50 for the tin). It came in 1 litre tin, it’s grey and has
"flammable", "harmful" and "dangerous for the environment" warning signs on it. Labeled up as a "The Trade
Group Ltd." T Euro product Couldn't see any reference to polyurethane anywhere but it is definitely not bitumen based.
Before I go and make a real mess is this the right stuff for under the arches etc ?
thanks

I would not use this product in the application you suggest. This stuff is for sealing where 2 panels are spot welded together to prevent water
getting in and rusting it out. Assuming you are building a lowcost with ally panels and GRP wings you don't need anything to protect the
underside of the wings. Usually you fit a edging strip between the wing and the panel to tidy off the join.
Don't use this stuff - take it back

Roofseal
Rubberised roofing paint is the stuff but you don't need it for waterproofing, it's more for stonechip and starring of the fibreglass. You
can buy schutz for carbody protection from paint suppliers as well
yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

I used felt roofing adhesive and its great, and cheap too, takes a while to dry though.
Have you passed your SVA yet GMTBH?
If not when is it?

nope pre-SVA checks at local garage on Friday, hoping for SVA pass before end of Jan .
Reason I bought the above was based on thread in which Mark Allanson recommended something described as "I'm going to use brushable seam
sealer, its PU, and best stuff you can get for the job "
http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=19895
this stuff was as close as I could find to what Mark describes. It would appear it dries quickly too. Maybe Mark will be along later put me right on
the subject. If it's wrong it goes back and I'll buy something else.
In fact it does not look too different this this stuff ?

loads cheaper though

Most brushable seam sealers that I have used have been the same as spray on anti chip just not thinned down, I would have thought that it would be
ideal for the underside on wings etc. Brought some stuff at a show which is just like a cold bitumen, took ages to dry and really stank, I'm not
sure I won't redo with seam sealer, May be worth using spray on antichip used with a schutsh? gun. Rusty

You would have to be very luck to get a bitumen based paint that will not shrink and eventually crack. Bitumen normally takes about 5 years to fully
cure, and thats why flat roof always seem to leak after 5 years!
Brushable seam sealer is PU, very resilliant to stone chipping, cures in about 5 hours, can be overpainted if you want, chemically resilliant (just
get some petrol near bitumen based paints!), Its adhesive qualities are excellent.
Why spoil the job for a hapeth of tar
If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation
