svc rear light housings

was re-shaping the rear light housing to fit the indy wings today, well, yesterday as it is now.

anyway in the process of removing the white plastic angle bracket bits, that hold the captive fixings, managed to crack the abs housing. I can't for the life in me think what the original shape of the housing is designed to fit, but to get it to fit the indy, it needs to be cut back well into where the angle bracket sits.

my question therefore is who makes the housings? SVC and MNR both sell them, but i assume MNR get theirs from SVC as they had them long before anyone else.

can i get a set without the angle superglued on already?

i don't mean to damge SVCs reputation as everything else i have had has been spot on, and service at shows second to none, but i don't see how they can be fitted without removing the angle, and am ever so slightly pi**ed off that they are £50 a pair and yet still need butchering.

will ring SVC in the morning but any suggestions would be helpful

cheers
tom

must admit they are tricky to trim to fit although not impossible.
They where originally done for westfield whose rear arch must be a different shape
we tend to use the individual single units as they are a lot easier ( no trimiing )

cant see why you couldnt remove the mounting plates and reattach with an epoxy ( not tried this but cant see it being a problem )

i could easily remove them if i knew how.

they seem to be really well bonded on, and to try to cut the bond out was what cracked the first one.

i don't want to try the other and crack that aswell, as i could just about manage another one, but another pair would really annoy me. is there a release agent or is a case of persevering?

cheers for the input, might try some single ones but i don't think my arches are wide enough time for measuring and creative thinking

If they are the carbon effect ones I have a spare one untouched. I butchered one and gave up on the idea. £15 plus postage and it's yours. (you can have the other one as well included - not cracked I just took too much material off the edges to fit my arches)
let me know.

i rang steve, and although they don't make them, said he would ring the manuf'rs and see if he could get some without brackets already cemented on.

if he draws a blank, I'd love that one.
cheers mate

Tom,
How are you getting on with your light clusters? I have bought a pair from GTS Tuning and am having similar problems. In fact my problems are even worse because the light clusters are actually too wide to fit my GTS wheel arches. GTS do two types of arches, the 11" ones and the 9" ones (which I have). Presumably GTS use them with the wider arches.

I did consider buying a pair of individual housings for each side but as you suggested, these are even wider. The only option would be to offset the stop/tail light and indicator vertically a little bit which might look okay. Do you know if it is possible to buy the plastic housings on there own without the light units?

Does SVA have any issues with offset lights as per my suggestion above?

Cheers,
Craig.

Hi Marc,
Thanks for that although so far all is going resonably well and I have almost fitted my first light unit. I had thought that they had to be square to both the vertical and lateral planes but that is only the fog lights (and reverse light if fitted). I have trimmed the cluster to the profile of the wheel arch and have fitted some plastic edging trim to the edge of the cluster. This gives me the "give and take" required to make it all fit. I did also have to cut a little bit from the inboard upper corner due to my wheel arches not being wide enough to accommodate the cluster as it is.

I'll post a photo once I've finished the fitting to let you all see what on earth I've been on about...

Cheers,
Craig.
