Get rid of any metal bits and replace them with carbon fibre or aluminimum?
okay, a bit expensive....
I've had brilliant results using POR metal ready as a primer on bare metal (steel). it converts the surface to something or other that
doesn't rust, and also eats away any rust that is there.
When I get round to doing up a mini (after the Sylva is on the road hopefully!), any steel parts will be given the POR metal ready treatment. I cna
only seem to find it in Frosts in the UK though.

chop it out and weld in some that's not rusty!!
Shotblasting/gritblasting wherever corrosion is light.
