Made the mould...
and it separated from the buck OK (WOOHOO!!!! RESULT!!!!)
However the surface has lots of minor imperfections....however, these are easily sorted by a a bit of 400g Wet & Dry followed by 1200...and a bit
of Farecla G3...
Is this the norm???

Imperfections as in bumps or pin holes?
Bumps are easy as you can flat them off, pin holes will produce little "pips" on the part you make.

A kind of mottled uneven effect - probably caused by the PVA?
As I said - easily sorted with some wet & dry, just curious if it was the norm....

If it's the PVA mate...just try hot soapy water first...you will be surprised.

make sure you take your hands out of ya pockets when you say it .
basically if whatever youve gelled is too waxy , it reticulates . could/can produce the effect you mention otherwise , hot soapy water to get rid of
the pva

Been washed - so is not residual PVA... thought it might be the way the PVA dried, though - the PVA was dabbed on with a sponge so didn't seem
*that* smooth....mottled marks would be consistent with this....
still drawing a blank on "reticulation"....thicko terms, please?

maybe you got it too hot then or didn't polish off the wax and it has left it's mark.

re·tic·u·late - adj.
Resembling or forming a net or network: reticulate veins of a leaf.
I think is what my GRP teacher called 'triping' as in 'looking like tripe' in the sense here of the actual cows stomach lining
type tripe. A blotchy, reticulated, pattern.
I'm just confusing things more aren't I ?

If the PVA wasn't smooth, could it have caused a similar effect?

Reticulation looks like crackle glaze if it's what I think he means.
yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

If it is the release agent then I guess the answer to this problem is presumably more elbow grease when polishing off?

Reticulation it is then....thankfully didn't show up on the piece of gelcoat I laid down yesterday evening and removed today...
Did end up with what looked like some pinholes. However, after rubbing down with some 400grit W&D then 1200W&D and a bit of a polish, all
looked good
