sticky back plastic body work???
Morning all,
Now I've had an idea, and want to run it past you.
As I'm tight, and not good at painting, I was wondering about covering the ali panel of my car with sticky back plastic to give them some
colour. I Know the risk of bubbles etc, but has this ever been done and what were to results?
Many thanks on your opinions

I would use a colour fast vinyl as plastic will fade quick.
HTH.

interesting idea but my gut feeling is it will cost more than paint.
to get a good finish spraying needs a biut of practise but people have achieve acceptable results (on land rovers) using a fine foam roller (for
radiators).
you would need to use etch primer for best results.
if your sitcky placcy works out cheaper give it a go - there an many buses & cars covers with this stuff for advertising; not sure how durable it
would be and it if falls off, then you can always paint it.

Hi all,
I've found a company that supplies exterior colour fast plastic (sticky), durable for a minimum of 7 years, @ £18 a roll, so I'm very
tempted to try it, unless you know some where to get cheap etch primer and paints from? (please)

In the trade it is called a 'wrap' and uses a 10 year plastic film. To get a good, bubble free finish takes a lot of practice but is
possible, although some compound curves will be a challenge to say the least.
If plain coloured panels are required then paint 'em.
Cheers,
Raz

They do indeed - and it's never a problem until you have a try yourself
