edging trim

I have cut a new hole for my exhaust in my side panel, if I leave an inch gap all round the single exhaust pipe can I use rubber edgeing trim on the edge or will it melt??

what is a safe(ish) distance for this trim in relation to the exhaust as I have other areas Id like to use it.

Thanks Andrew.

I put rubber trim around the front and rear edges of my lolocost silencer , silencer is knackered but the trim is still ok .Would have thought that using it to trim around the side panel would be OK .

I did that too, trim survived but SVA man failed it as not durable enough, go figure.

I didn't use trim there, just cut the hole close enough to the pipes and then the SVA man can't contact the edges with his sphere.

was that still ok for the " sheet metal edges must be turned back by 180 degrees" bit in the manual???

Be nice if it was, cos I have the same problem around my exhaust and filter in the bonnet.

Yes it passed all sections, return edges and the sphere test, I think the bonnet edges may be looked at closer as some idiot may stick there finger in a bonnet surface.
