Broken my Aeroscreen - Advice please

I got my new screen from Mac 1 yesterday and tried to fit it today.

After a bit of sanding to make the profile fit, I marked the holes, rested it on my bench and stared to drill it.

On the second hole it went snap and split int
o two pieces.

Do you think I've been too rough with it - I didn't try to drill it particularly slowley as I thought it would be quite strong. It was a warm day today so it shoudn't have been brittle.

Could it have had a flaw that caused the crack, or have I just been a bit of a numpty?

It was only £30 so not the end of the world.

I haven't called Mac 1 yet, but will on Monday to see what they think.

Thanks

Stu

1cm from the bottom, and at least 5cm from the side.

Drill bit was too sharp.......it is the case when drilling polyc that a sharp drill is the wrong tool.
you use a dull bit and it doesnt try to screw its self into the plastic.

What sort of drill were you using, a standard 60° HSS generates too much torque on lexan (quite a high friction material). I think a wood drill or a spot drill (same principle) would do a better job as it cuts the outer circumference of the hole before removing the waste material

If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

It was a normal HSS metal bit.

I'll try a wood one next time.

Doesnt sound like it was polycarb. In which case not a good idea for a screen.
