Cutting Column Hole In Dash - Sorted

Just finished cutting a hole in my expensive fluke carbon dash for my steering column to go through and thought I'd share my solution that worked.

1) Fit dash to scuttle without steering column in place with tape and drill mouting holes through dash and scuttle.

2) Remove dash

3) Make an ali (or thick cardboard) template of dash including the mouting holes.

4) Mount column (ooo errr)

5) Cut big hole in dash template roughly where the column will poke through

6) Fit dash template and bolt in place through the mounting holes.

7) Cut small square template (but bigger than the hole made in (5) with appropriate hole in the middle of it that's big enough to go over the column.

8) Slide small template from (7) over the column. Centralise it and stick it to the dash template with tape.

9) Remove dash template.

10) Bolt dash template onto the top of dash.

11) Transfer hole position onto the dash and chain drill etc.

Sounds complicated and long winded, but I didn't cock my dash up and it will save anyone else having to think about it and doesn't involve any real measuring!

Even tho' its a relatively straight forward job i bet you were twitching when you started the cut. I find vodka helps to calm the nerves
