How hot can glassfibre get
How hot can glassfibre get before it melts/blisters?
Im running my exhaust manifold close to the side panel (10mm and 3mm from top box section of chassis) and it gets too hot to touch when the car is
idling. Ive used exhaust wrap but im wondering if its ok or will it melt?
Sorry about my spelling, im an engineer and only work in numbers.

my turbo gets very hot and its very very close to the side of the engine bay.
2000 miles later so far so good

On my fury the exhaust runs inside the side pod and is only about 10mm away. The panel gets extremely hot (certainly too hot to hold your hand on )
but has not bubbled/cracked. This exhaust original had a cat in it ( oops must have fell out) and even this didn't cause issues. I do have a
small heat shield inside but the panel does get extremely hot.
The panel has bubbled very slightly on the top face of the side pod but this is inside the door aperture and therefore has no air flow so is not a
good area to compare with your side panel.
I think you'll be fine but if your worried i guess you could back the panel off with ali sheet to carry heat away more quickly

my turbo manifold is very close to the side panel too, yesterday it got so hot it went all wobbly and even started to bubble a little, but after it
cooled down, hey presto, went back to it was.

As a precaution against heat damage I lined the inside of my engine bay with ceramic heat mat. It deflects the heat nicely and despite being a couple
of inches above my V6 engine the bodywork stays quite cool.

My worry would be that it would soften in the heat and sag onto something really hot. GRP burns like petrol soaked kindling. Unless you carry a big
extinguisher I'd be careful....

SVA man made me cut the bonnet out further to clear exhaust better. He also told mne that when it ignites it burns quite well. Not sure if it would
need a hot flame though to do that. Best be on the safe side.
