canvas door locking/unlocking

I am sure someone can suggest something about my wet weather gear doors being locked and undone.....

I was informed that I should put my arm over the top of the door, inside and press the tag (which is nearly at the bottom on the inside of the door) onto a press stud to lock the doors. The problem being is that I have short arms to match my body (the wife has even shorter arms!!!) and we cannot reach the tag.

That means on the drivers side only we will have to make some kind of opening half way down the door so that we can reach in and undo/lock the door.

If we do make some kind of opening how do we stop the rain from coming in.....Has anyone else done something similar that keeps the rain out with a flap on the outside/inside....how have you sitched it....etc...etc

Regards

stitch velcro on - one half on the top of the door, the other on the inside of the roof flap?

If you have just the doors on, presumably it is a bit easier to use the strap anyway?

Alternatively, stitch on the hooky bit of velcro to the bottom of the door and have stick-on soft bit of velcro just below the sill?

Good luck!

some day when mine is done I was thinking of using waterproof zippers. Might be something to consider?
Cheers.
