attaching bonnet scoop
Evening all
i have just been looking at the carbon mods website and my wallet started shouting at me, NO NO NO NO NO NO, so whilst browsing i came across this
carbon mods page
i dont have a bonnet scoop on my car but have been thinking about getting one for a while as i have a burton racing rocker cover but it doesn't
fit under my bonnet without a scoop. then it got me thinking,
how would you go about fitting a scoop onto a bonnet that doesn't have one?
obviously there would be cutting involved but how do you fix the scoop to the bonnet..
I love Pinto's, even if i did get mine from P&O!

"The scoop needs to be securely installed and is provided complete with a paper drilling template and pre-bonded fasteners to ensure
trouble-free secure installation", maybe?
Depending on how it is underneath, you could use PU adhesive and/or rivets from underneath

I think you'd be safe just bonding it on.
Obviously observing the normal rules re bonding ie Keying the surface and clean/dry etc.
By the way, I saw the bonnet bulge for the first time yesterday and it's a really high quality item! Made me want one and I don't even
need a bulge!!!

They often have a small "return" on the inside of the scoop around the edges.
I just cut the bonnet hole so it was the same size as the scoop and rivetted through the bonnet and scoop....

i think that rivets would be the best way to go, the last thing i want to see is my bonnet scoop flying off at 70+ mph (on the track of course)
I love Pinto's, even if i did get mine from P&O!

I fitted a GRP scoop to the bonnet of my turbo'd Corolla in my youth. Quite wide opening and directly in the airflow. I used 6 bolts through the
flange inside the scoop. Unfortunately at 135MPH the scoop separated from the flange!!
The next one was glassed up twice as thick and had 8 bolts holding it on

my Cortina’s scoop (originally stared as a small bump to clear the carbs) was hammered out from underneath with a ball hammer and an friend holding a
block of wood on the other side 'imperfections' were removed with body filler and a grinder cut the slot. Worked really well.

A word of warning - This is probably better suited to metal bonnets than fibreglass ones!
