clamshell fitting

Planning to fit a set of clamshells. Does any have a pic or ideas for the necessary brackets? Or indeed are brackets needed?

I should say that the clamshell masterplan is to avoid the constant rewelding of cracked cycle wing brackets. This may or may not be a good idea!

Cheers

Gary

Fleabay Item number: 290257161664 shows a white 7 with clamshells. The bracket appears to be just a piece of 1"x1/4" flat bar fastened to the chassis, with the wing fastened to that as well as all the other fastenings to the body.
Also look at 'Lotus Seven & The Independents ' on Amazon. The front cover has a good shot under a clamshell wing. HTH.

re clamshells

Fitted mine to a single bracket made from shaped 20 mm square section that carries the headlight and indicator too - design copied from David Dunn's CD.
Completely agree with you re cycle wing brackets. The secret is to avoid any welding in the brackets, because it's always in the heat affected zone that they break. My earlier car (2CV special) now has bent tube brackets and they are reliable. Previous dedign based on 'book' were hopeless.

Rh Clamshell

That exhaust is going to make a mess of the RH clamshell.

8 years 8 k miles on original bookish front wingstays, not bust yet.

I agree about making cycle wing stays out of non-welded parts. After n breakages and rewelds, strengthening, etc. I made my own out of flat bar and the original triangle plates (for Cortina uprights), bolted through. So far, so good.

Also, I have heard that clamshell wings can have more of a tendency to catch the airflow and give a bit of frontal lift
