brake caliper painting

painting the calipers again this weekend, i put one layer on, and waited for well over the recommended 24 hours (painted on fri eve) and second coated them on sunday night, and the bloody paint stripped off the first layer as i was painting the second! the first layer was hard and dry when i started but as soon as i touched fresh paint it just came off the metal like id just put one layer on, and the worst thing is this paint is really thin so it seems like its never actually sticking to the metal! anyone else had anything like this? can anyone recommend a caliper paint that will leave my calipers with an actual professional finish instead of a one coat brush marked finish?
thanks al

I used Halfrauds blue caliper paint and it seems ok.

I bought exchange calipers for my car that looked like they had a zinc coating. I just etched primed then sprayed with smoothrite and they have been fine.

Yup, smooth satin black hammerite to M16 calipers for me too. Pretty tough finish, hasn't peeled off yet and seems pretty resistant to brake fluid.

I think caliper paint, engine block paint etc etc is all a bit of a con. But then that might just be the sceptic in me. Calipers don't tend to get thaaat hot anyway (especially for road driving). I think you'll be having fluid boiling problems before its hot enough on the outside of the caliper to ruin the paint finish!
