GRP bonnet extension

I have acquired an MK bonnet for a price I couldn't refuse (equivalent to 50 GBP). I am using a nosecone from the US, based on the original Champion Motor Cars mould. I have a gap between the rearward edge of the nose and the front edge bonnet. I cannot move the nose further back due to rad size (double core Honda Civic racing rad), and cannot move the bonnet further forward because of the scuttle position.

Has anybody extended their bonnet 4 or 5 inches using the "wing widening" technique described on here by the ever present (happily for us), Mr. Whippy?

Alternatively, I supposed one could rivet on an ally strip to the nose or the bonnet. I just want to know if anyone has done it before I launch into a silly idea and wreck things.
