Aluminium Sheet???

For the winter I am planning on building a floor for the engine/front section of my R1 Indy.

I want to do this in order to (i) aid aerodynamics an (ii) work as a slight sump guard.

My plan is to make it bolt on/off to allow access to the oil filter and engine. I will cut the side and rear for the hole for the sump to hang though but plan on beding it like a ramp to protect the sump.

Second option, can you buy shorter sump pans for the 5PW R1 engine?

Mine is so low I know I will wreck the engine on something silly one day. I tramed lined at a junction the other day (lorries must wait there and the road had sunk) and I must have been so close to ground out the engine sump!!!!

So - any links to some sheeting to use ???

wouldn't it be better to modify the sump so that it was shallower?

I dont think a sheet of aluminium will do the slightest thing to protect your sump. Ramping it under the sump will just make it complex and reduce even more your ground clearance.

Why not cut a sump shaped hole in a flat panel and allow the sump to poke through??

not sure how a motorbike sump set up works but my pinto sump has a shortened pick up pipe and then welded. is your sump made of ali?

im sure that if you contact a local ali fabricator and describe what you want then they should be able to help?

other alternative, you could run a dry sump system but i dont know whether dry sumps are available for bike engines? my be worth a little research.

Just read your post properly. Aries Motorsport advertise a billet sump on their website but dont have a price.

Aries Motorsport

I'm sure Ian Gray advertised these when the project was under the Stuart Taylor banner before Aries took it on - they were something like £250 - £300 or so years ago.

Andy Bates (AB Performance) has also got to be worth a shout??
