Hi guys,
hoping someone can help with an ignition problem im having.
Went out to start our pinto powered ZR the other day and the engine if not firing. After investigating it is not producing a spark. checked leads,
plugs, cap and rotor all seem ok. Also checked coil and it is good as states in the ford manual. I have checked voltages to and from igntion module
which is barely 300 miles old, it is receiving 12 volts but then only gives approx 1.2v to the dizzy, is this correct?!! if not how much should it be
or am i reading it wrong?!!!
Thanks,
Adam + Paul
Did you check the coil with a spark plug in the end of the king lead, it will fire 4 times more than a plug lead, I've seen them give a good reading but only spark twice then give up and the carbon plunger in the top of the cap for continuity from the rotor arm? Which ignition module do you have? they are usually very reliable.
I have also known the resistor in the rotor arm between the centre and the outer contact blow.
If I remember correctly, you should be getting more like 10 volts to the dizzy...

Electronic or points????
Ive had starnge happenings with electronic a few months ago. Only too pleased to share if you say what your system is.
