hi all
anybody got any ideas .

trying to set up the ecu,
every time i try to connect the computer freezes or i get into it and then the comp says ecu comms lost
( computer says no )

the car starts but would like to make it run better, b4 i have it tuned ( over fueling black smoke hunting great on open throttle but on normal its like off roading )
would like to test it out first

i have tried 2 different leads already.
the lead is usb to rs232
could it be the cheap e-bay leads, driver probs or just interference

any ideas will be welcome

cheers paul

A lot of people have had similar problems with later laptops that don't have a serial port. The usb to serial conversion is sometimes a bit iffy. I found an old Thinkpad which works a treat with my MBE.

You are welcome to borrow it and see if that is where the problem lies? I can even nip round and have a try if you like

Could be a grounding problem ---- don't know this system but on some TinTop ecus the signal ground connection (or lack of it) causes similar problems.

Quite common to have coms problems with OMEX ECUs unfortunately. Not helped by the firmware updates which sometimes fixes it then next time breaks it. Not completely OMEX's fault as their ECUs are based on GEMS hardware and the fault finding is minimal till OMEX test it properly and feed back the errors.

My 710 ECU has gone back to fix a coms, data logger and a fuel pump issue but my firmware was an old beta release because I wanted to try the traction/launch control features built in.

I did the very same thing before I got a laptop - midi tower. full size keyboard and a 15" monitor perched on the passenger seat

So are you sorted now?
