Testing problems on megasquirt and spark in sunny north london

OK, so I've built the megasquirt and spark and most of the stim tests work. I say most because:

a: I can't get any RPM figures
b: the TPS tester on the stim does not move the gauge only light the 'flood' sign in the bottom right hand corn when opened fully.
c: none of the lights on the stim are illuminated.

I am getting frustrated with it as I don't really understand it enough to do anything other than follow simple instructions. Once the thinking part comes in I am lost. Is there anybody I can send the thing to for a check out or preferably is there anybody near enough to Winchmore Hill in North London who would be willing to come and check it out?

one thing is, has the stim been checked?.

Well, I don't want to sound like a complete moron, but how do you check the stim?

only way really is find someone with a working megasquirt, plug it in to your stim, and check it that way

What ignition setup have you built it for? Some won't work on the stim, or need to be put into 'stim for wheel' mode to be able to test rpm with the stim.

If the flood clear indicator changing then the TPS is doing something. Have you looked in the realtime display (under the tuning menu in megatune) to see if you can see any changes in the tps there?

Don't forget to switch off stim for wheel before connecting it to the engine. otherwise it will flood you engine.

Well, it took a little time to find some quiet time to read through the fault finding instructions carefully. Having done that I got to a comment on the stim about having an RPMC installed and having not a clue what that is I start looking at the stim for it. I noticed this little block with a sliding switch on top of it next to the RPM switch. So I flicked it over and guess what, the revs started to work! Success. Naturally the thing went pair shaped a few minutes later when the computer started beeping at me and the guages went red and stopped working but I am just delighted to get this far.

Ray, thank you very much for the offer of looking at the board. It really took the edge of my state of near total panic during the week by knowing that if after all my testing attempts I could just accept failure and post it to you.

I will recharge the battery and wash the board with the 99% alcohol and then have another go at it. Cheers

Low voltage in the battery can cause strange errors.
Always use a fresh battery or get a power supply.
