Rolling Road, how many of you..............

Just wondered how many owners who have installed Megasquirt, have then had it tuned on a rolling road ?

You have posed a very good question.
It will be interesting to see which RR operators have knowledge of MS.

Isn't that the whole point of having a "tunable" system?

If you don't have it tuned why bother.

I used to be apathetic but now I just don't care.

Putting a tunable system in doesn't necessarily mean you want or need to splash out on a rolling road session.

I put a tunable system in. Started with a pretty blank map and the car's running reasonably well. Not been anywhere near a rolling road, though - did it myself with the help of assorted tools.

To get away without the rolling road, you ideally would want a datalogger in the car for a few hundred miles to log throttle position, engine speed, and lambda reading.

This will give correction data for the AFR tables.

Think laptop, wideband sensor + other assorted tools fall into that category

So if i map it with laptop & wideband sensor and get it running smooth in all conditions, why should i pay out £400+ for a rolling road session?

(incidently - im after a X-Flow map )

Only place i have heard of that does RR for MS is Northampton motorsport?

I ran a crossflow on megasquirt and just set it up on the road and didnt even use a wideband sensor .i just tuned it by ear and feel to start with driving gently and then fitted a narrowband sensor and used that to datalog and adjust with megalog viewer.
I managed to get a good drivable map but did make sure it was always very rich under full throttle so had no problems with the engine, but wouldnt recomend it unless your engine is expendable.
I have now upgraded to a zetec and need to get a wideband set up as im having problems getting a good tune on this one, although it is drivable but heavy on fuel at present.I also had a good ignition map on the crossflow from when i was running carbs and megajolt so kept the megajolt for the ignition, it is harder to tune both together .
