Bulkhead connector for swirl pot
progers - 24/12/08 at 11:06 AM

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a reasonably priced bulkhead connector that I could use to connect two wires to fuel pump that is sited in a swirl pot (i.e. secondary fuel tank).

I can only find military grade things and wondered how other people have solved this issue. The swirl pot itself will only be at a few psi as it is fed by a low pressure facet pump from the main tank. Ideally I would like the connector to be relatively small in diameter.

Any help appreciated

Cheers

Paul

I'd be tempted to use a polyamide waterproof gland like these from Maplins.

I'd use 2-core wire with a round outer cover to ensure you get a good seal.

Should handle a few PSI nicely. Not sure how many cm H20 IP68 is but should be okay.

Aha! Just looked it up.

IP68= immersion beyond 1 m

1M of H20 = 1.408 PSI

So should be okay. the seal is neoprene, which seeing as you get neoprene petrol pipe shouldn't be a problem!!!

http://www.cjk.co.uk/properties-polyamide-polycarbonate.shtml

suggests the polyamide material should be fine with petrol too

I used electrical glands like the pic above. Got them in B&Q.

You can just see them above the battery....
