erm, voltage. assuming its for the car, then DC voltage, and it usually has different ranges, ie 2mV, 2, 20, 200 and you choose the right scale

This one - it will read anything from 0 to 20.0v

Quick point with these things.

if you get a - (minus) voltage the black lead is connect to the point that has the higher voltage than the red one ( so reverse the leads)

Usually you put the black lead on the CHASSIS and touch the red of the wire to be tested.

I find that the testers like this are more useful on the car....

LINKY
as they light up if there is 12v.

Remember to turn it off after use -- otherwise you get a flat battery (in the meter).

As you are new yo using one try it on a 1.5 volt battery first --- just don't expect to see 1.5 volts the voltage it shows wll be between about 1.2 volts and 1.58 volts depending on the condition of a battery. Across a car battery expect to see anything up to almost 15 volts if the the engine is running.
